The main context where we are looking into the collaboration is the development of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal signed an MoU with the National Brain Research Centre, Manesar for collaborative research on exploring bioresources for neurodegenerative disorders.
This MoU was signed during a programme held on Thursday at IBSD, Imphal where Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD highlighted various research activities for the development of bioresources in the North Eastern region. He mentioned that IBSD has already signed MoUs with many institutes for human resource development and to enhance the research activities in this region.
During the programme, Prof. Krishanu Ray, Director, NBRC mentioned various programmes for neuroscience research and education. He highlighted various research opportunities where both the institute can work together for capacity building of scientists/students from NER. During the programme, scientists/ scholars/ staff of IBSD were present.
Speaking to this correspondent here at Imphal stated that IBSD has already been working in traditional plants and biological research in NE India, and NBRC is working on various neuro-related diseases. So the main context where we are looking into the collaboration is the development of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease mainly as we have found several leads in our study in traditional medicines and plants towards this.
As both the department is under Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science & Technology, two main aspects of the MoU would be on the collaboration of drug discovery on brain disorders, and another part would be training and capacity building of our students and researchers not only of IBSD but for all the scholars of this region who are interested to promote the drugs for behavioural brain studies.
