Parmeshwar Yadav of Jharkhand is an outstanding example of teaching with innovation. He has come up with a unique technique of teaching English and Mathametics to his students through music. He is a living example of the famous proverb – “When there is a will, there is a way”.

Mohd. Rakib

The district of Giridhi is nearly 200 kilometers from Ranchi the capital of Jharkhand. Obviously, it takes at least four to five hours of travel by road to reach there from Ranchi itself. But teachers from this district have managed his thousand kilometers of fame in a matter of a few minutes.  In just a blink, his fame has spread all over the world turning him into an overnight celebrity. So much so, that stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan and poet Kumar Vishwas has become his fan.

Yes, it may sound a little weird but it is true that he no longer needs any introduction and has his admirers all over the world.  With his unique teaching technique, he has almost turned into a hero.

So much so, that stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan and poet Kumar Vishwas has become his fan. Yes, it may sound a little weird but it is true that he no longer needs any introduction and has his admirers all over the world.  With his unique teaching technique, he has almost turned into a hero.

Considerably, this teacher from Doomri Prakhand’s Gulidadi village (Giridhi district) came into news after a video of his teaching through his unique technique suddenly went viral over the social media.

The uniqueness of this video was that Parmeshwar Yadav was seen teaching his students English through singing. These songs were originally in the local language Khortha and the tunes were also local. Normally, such tunes are used during Chhat puja. Parmeshwar had taken up those local tunes to teach kids English alphabets along with vowels and consonants. It somewhat goes like in the local dailect –“ abcd 26 akshar, 26 sou akshar alphabet hovey re,nunu re pnacho go vowel a,e,i,o,u baki sab consonant hovey re” which means abcd 26 words, which makes 26 alphabets, out of which a,e, i,o,u are vowels rest are all consonants.

When such a creative video came into Mr. Vishwas’s knowledge he not only tweeted it but also praised him a lot stating that he wishes, he would have come across such a musical guru, who could have taught him vowels and consonants in such a musical manner, then today he could have spoken fluent English as Mr. Shashi Tharoor. And when Mr. Bachchan came across this video he also couldn’t escape without praising. He also tagged it to his Tweeter handle. And then what better could have happened, Parmeshwar was all over the social media.

People started looking for him in Google and You-Tube videos. Destiny and good fortune spread his popularity all over the world. People started calling him and wanted to meet him in person whereas, media started assembling at his place.

Parmeshwar himself says that he couldn’t believe that he was the one, whom people are calling up, coming to meet him and it is his story that is showing up on television. He says so far, many media houses have interviewed him, television channels have shown his story and many people got intimated about his story through newspapers and magazines. This is also the reason that his fellow villagers have started taking this son of the village (Parmeshwar) seriously. The head of the village also praises him for his great job.

With all the attention that he is getting, his family is also very happy with him. Even though Parmeshwar himself belongs to an economically backward agricultural family, he says all these have increased his challenges even more. He says, “I feel even more responsible for my students.

Now, I ensure to teach them with utmost sincerity so that these children could learn well and get good education and understanding which would enrich them with confidence to move forward in life, putting behind the challenges that life will eventually be throwing towards them.

Otherwise, also, it has always been my wish that children from remote areas should also get a scope to learn English so that even they could progress. I wish to see village kids become a doctor or an engineer.”

Whatsoever, it seems like destiny must have had a key role to play in the life of Parameshwar, even having a hundred, thousands of admirers all across the globe, he has had his own share of hard work and struggles to reach where he is today. Born to mother Tilki Devi and his farmer’s father Fagu Mahato, he had struggled poverty since childhood but did manage to complete his inter in science from Giridhi College; he graduated in English from here and today he is getting trained in DLAD (Digital Library Application Development). But this too has been equally challenging for him. Specially having his roots in an economically backward family, it has been tremendously challenging for him too.

Specially to be born in a family where even daily needs were at a stake. On top of it, it was itself challenging to be a villager of Giridhi’s, Doomri Prakhand’s Gulidadi village as it is an extremist affected area and remains in news regularly for such activities.

When the reporter asked him why even after having the ambition to be a teacher all through his life, he chooses to do DLAD, why hasn’t he considered of doing B.ed?  His answer was, “Monetary crisis stopped me from doing so. Opting for DLAD wasn’t also easy for me either. I believe many good students drop out because of the lack of amenities and monetary crisis.

Talents are buried under the dust of time. Even I have to take up tuitions to keep my education going, whereas in big cities people first complete their education and then they look for career perspectives.” Parmeshwar’s query throws a very important and essential question towards our society and system. What is great is that after his popularity, many have come forward for help which might open up new horizons for his dreams and plans in the future.

However, when Parmeshwar started teaching students of R P Progressive Public school he had many questions in his mind and dreams in his eyes. A dream to shape his own life and to make his students efficient enough to stands through the thick and thins of life and win the race too.

Parmeshwar got married in 2007, to Karmadar’s Savita Devi of Giridhi district and has three children from the marriage. He not only has responsibilities of a husband or a father to cater but he also has responsibilities as a teacher too. However, Parmeshwar was aware of the difficulties that students were facing during studies.

Why they have difficulties in coping with subjects like English and Mathematics? Whereas, these are the one which helps in shaping their career to the most. Despite the monetary crisis and lack of amenities how they could be provided with a good education. Hence he started applying his own technique.

By closely mixing with the kids and teaching the language in accordance with their understanding and familiarity with the language, Parmeshwar took the path of music. This initiative had good intention and honest efforts. Hence, the results were good too.

Parmweshwar says, he discovered, “Not only the children were developing an interest in their studies but were also able to cope up easily. They don’t feel studies to be a burden any longer, they feel happy”.

Parents’ are also very pleased with Parmeshwar’s initiative. He introduces new techniques to teach his children not only English but Maths as well. His entire focus is on developing new techniques for teaching so that children can get a clear understanding of the subject.

For this mission, he had received support and aspiration from Mr. Sushil Kumar who is the coordinator for DLAD training centre, Vijendar sir, Sampurnanand Tiwari, Nirmala ma’am Sheetal ma’am who have supported and encouraged. They have guided him from time to time. The art of teaching school children through folk music is something that draws any one’s attention instantly.

When children participate along with Parmeshwar this reminds of the ancient gurukul tradition.

As of now, after getting the title of musical teacher, Parmeshwar is filled with confidence. He wants to contribute new things in the field of academics and teaching. He believes, teaching children with strictness does not work.

With children one has to be affectionate and teach them in a friendly manner, it helps them to learn better. Now it is for us to see that the teaching style of this son of Giridhi drives him and his dreams till where.

It’s all about Parmeshwar.

Being extremely fond of children, a video of Parmeshwar surfaced where he was seen teaching kids English through the medium of music. This video got him to such a height of fame which has been not an easy task otherwise.

Presently Parmeshwar is undertaking DLAD training and along with that, he teaches kids at a local school. Till now he has been teaching kids with folk music that he composed himself. His centre for DLAD training is at Giridhi’s Plus two High School.

A few days back during the training session when he got an opportunity to present his technique, he started teaching English to children with songs.

Along with his soulful voice, the way he placed English alphabets in between, writing them on a blackboard the teachers were impressed. One of the teachers recorded it on his mobile and uploaded the video.

Hence, Parmeshwar was all over the internet. Not only people all over the world watched his video but they liked and appreciated it tremendously.
