Imphal: Upon completion of the four days police remand, the women protestors were produced before the CJM Imphal West court (Cheirap court) on Tuesday. No counsel represented the woman protestors in court. The public prosecutor pleaded the court for remanding the arrested women protestors to Judicial custody. The court accepted the plea and the women were given remand for 14 days till June 14.

It may be recalled that the women protestors attacked  the lawyer represent a murder inside court complex and vandalized court properties on 18 May when the accused in the Arun murder case was being produced in court.  Subsequently,  13 women protestors were arrested and a case registered by the police under FIR no 106 (5)2019, LPSU/S144/148/307/325/353/447 IPC &333 PDPP.

Police produced the murder suspects, Thoi alias Helen,  the wife of deceased Arun and pradhan, Rabi before CJM, Imphal East. The volunteers of the joint action committee against the murder case who arrived prior to the production of both the arrested persons started violent protests inside Lamphel court complex, resulting into vandalising court properties by destroying window panes and further assaulting a lawyer at the court complex.

The situation came under control following the arrival of additional police force at the complex. The volunteers of committee were all driven out from the court during which, 13 women volunteers of JAC were picked up by the police.

It may be mentioned that Thoi alias Helen, wife of deceased Arun had already made her confessional statement that she had a love relationship with Pradhan Rabi for the past some years and her newly born baby is also son of Rabi. She had also disclosed to the police during the interrogation that after her deceased husband Arun came know about her relationship with the Pradhan Rabi, they frequent quarreled and fought with each other. Deceased Arun reportedly scolded her every time whenever he got drunk and disclosed her illicit relationship with Rabi to others.

However, Rabi still denied the charge leveled against him in connection with the murder of Arun and also informed the police during interrogation that he had illicit affairs with many women in his locality.

Decrying the vandalism of court property and assault of a lawyer, Lawyers in the state yesterday staged protest in front of Cheirap court which prompted the Court authorities to forbid entry to the court complex.
