5 persons injured in gunfire at Imphal

Police said that the cause of the incident is under investigation

A woman and a teenager were among five persons who sustained injuries two of them seriously when a group of armed men opened fire at a residence at Konjenhajari Leikai in Imphal West district on Saturday night, the police said. The police and Forensic expert team on Sunday morning rushed to the spot and started a details investigation into the crime.

Police said that around 20 men some of them wore masks forced their entry into the residence of one Khaidem Seityajit alias Bobo (38) at Konjehajari Leikai, airport road at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. The masks men at gunpoint dragged Kh Seityajit from his house and tried to abduct him. Unwilling to follow their command, the gunmen opened fire into the air.

On hearing the gunshots, Ranjana Devi wife of Seityajit raised hues and cried obstructing the dragging of her husband. Soon, some locals of the Konjenghajari came to the rescue of Satyajit. Unable to abduct Seityajit, the gunmen opened fire some rounds injuring five persons.

Seriously injured individuals namely RK Medha 37 and N Priyanananda, 36, were immediately rushed to the Raj Medicity Hospital, Imphal. The 3 others namely N Adharson, 15, H Trilokchand, 34, and S Boycha, 35, who also suffered bullet injuries were rushed to the RIMS, hospital, Imphal. 

A case has been registered with the Imphal police station. Police said that the cause of the incident is under investigation. Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee against the firing at the innocents has also been formed.
