CorCom is boycotting the 76th India Independence Day
Imphal : Coordination Committee (CorCom), an umbrella body of the six major armed revolutionary outfits operating in Manipur has called for a 17:30 hours total shutdown on Tuesday. CorCom is boycotting the 76th India Independence Day. A statement issued by CorCom stated on Friday that the shutdown would be effected from 1 am and would be ended at 6.30 pm on Tuesday.
However, essential services – medical, water supplies, fire services, social and religious functions, and the press, will be exempted from the purview of the social boycott, the statement states. It also appealed to the people to stay indoors and not to hoist the Indian national flag on August 15.
The CorCom which is demanding the sovereignty of Manipur is a conglomerate of six Valley-based militant outfits – the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), its Progressive faction (PREPAK-Pro), Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF, the political wing of the People’s Liberation Army- PLA), United National Liberation Front (UNLF). Princely state Manipur merged with the Indian Union in 1949.
Notably, Socialist Revolutionary Party, Kangleipak (SOREPA), an insurgent outfit in Manipur has also earlier called to boycott the Independence Day celebrations stating that there shall be a total shutdown from 4 am to 4 pm on August 15.
