Imphal : Ahead of Indian Independence Day celebrations, security has been beefed up across violence-affected Manipur with the recovery of 43 hand grenades and five different firearms, official sources said. Over 200 persons were paraded in combing operations conducted at different vulnerable areas in the valley and 11 persons who were unable to produce their valid documents were detained in different police stations, the sources said.
Manipur police commandos as a part of preventive measures for the upcoming I Day celebrations conducted a search operation at the Heirangoithong Oinam Loukon area and recovered some arms and ammunition found abandoned at Heirangoithong Oinam Loukon, Maibam Leikai Road in Imphal west district.
The recovered arms and ammunition include 1 Sub-Machine Gun 9mm Carbine along with magazine, one Sten Gun, one Pistol,4 numbers of HE 36 Hand Grenades without detonator,8 numbers of Ballistics rounds marked with H7.62 D,4 numbers of Tube Launching.3 numbers of rings and 1 magazine.
In another operation at Tingri Hill ranges under the Sekmai police station, police recovered 7 numbers of HE grenades, 7 numbers of Tube Launching 1A, Seven numbers of Grenade 90 MK 3, and 1 Carbine without a magazine have been found abandoned at the hill range.
