The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar has suspended an assistant professor from its Department of Electrical Engineering, identified as D. Koteshwara Raju, following allegations of molestation.

The accusation was made by a first-year female student, sparking significant attention and campus protests. According to institutional sources, this is not the first complaint against Dr. Raju, with prior incidents reported as far back as 2021, though some may have gone unreported.

Last night, hundreds of students protested fiercely in front of the faculty quarters. Due to the intense agitation by the students, the NIT authorities suspended the accused professor, Dr. D.K. Raju, at 3 a.m.

A security team was deployed on the NIT campus at night. A case has been filed at the Ghungoor Outpost regarding the incident.”

NIT Silchar’s Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) has launched a formal investigation into the matter to address the allegations thoroughly.
