The Board has so far published around 1000 titles in this long journey
Haflong : Noted writer Arup Kumar Dutta inaugurated the Assam Book Fare in the presence of Power Minister Nandita Gorlosa, District Commissioner, Simanta Kumar Das, Secretary Publication Board Assam Pramod Kalita and others at Haflong on Sunday.
The inaugural ceremony was started with the lighting of the holy lamp by the Chief Guest Arup Kumar Datta who was accompanied by Minister Gorlosa and others.
The Book Fare is organised by the Publication Board Assam, Higher Education Dept, Govt. of Assam at Haflong at the premises of Cultural Institute Hall.
In his inaugural speech, Dutta appealed to the guardians and the students to nurture the habit of book reading since the habit of book reading is very important in the life of human beings. He discussed about the impact of book reading on our lives. He also said the students to get involved in some activities at the Book Fare in addition to book reading.
Minister Gorlosa who initiated the holding of book fare at Haflong after decades requested the students to get the essence of books while visiting stalls during the seven-day book fair and also spent the days with the books.
In his welcome speech, Secretary Publication Board Assam Pramod Kalita said that the Publication Board Assam is a literary organisation under the Higher Education Department Govt. of Assam. The Publication Board Assam was born on 2nd May 1958. To think of establishing such an institution devoted solely to the promotion of books in the State, that too just after a decade of the country’s independence, speaks volumes about the love of the then policymakers for the language, literature the culture of the State. The Board has so far published around 1000 titles in this long journey.
