Guwahati : In a press statement released by the office of the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated that ‘Some baseless allegations have been leveled in recent social media posts on understanding with some UG leader of Manipur. It is reiterated that there is no engagement with any such elements.

There was a letter circulating in social media where the allegation was that the BJP had promised the demand of the Kuki’s and an arrangement was made with BJP before the 2017 elections where the names of Assam CM, Ram Madhav, etc were mentioned by UKLF Chairman.

Though the letter circulated could not be verified and created a debate and anger amongst the people of Manipur particularly against the BJP after the conflict that had taken the state of Manipur to a standstill.

The Assam Chief Ministers’ press note also clarifies that 25 armed groups of Kuki.Zomi/Hmar ethnic communities are under SoO in Manipur, signed in 2008 by the then Congress government. The appeal mentioned in the social media post is written by the self styled Chairman of one of these groups who are under investigation for his involvement in the arm pilferage case of 2nd MR in 2018.

The BJP state government transferred the case to NIA for investigation, indicating its seriousness in such cases. The involved persons were charge sheeted by NIA, which negates any suspicion of any compromise as alleged in the appeal.

Further, the statement concluded that the said appeal is a desperate attempt by an individual to save himself. Any insinuation of understanding with the said individual is baseless and devoid of merit.
