The Assam government has approved introduction of Meitei script in educational institutions across the state.

This move of the Assam government is aimed at safeguarding and promoting linguistic heritage of the Manipuri community in the state.

The initiative seeks to provide interested students with the opportunity to explore Manipuri literature and pursue higher education in the language using the Meitei/Mayek script.

Additionally, it aims to facilitate candidates from Assam seeking employment in Manipur, where knowledge of the Meitei/Mayek script is mandatory for certain jobs.

The decision to implement this measure was reached during a recent cabinet meeting of the Assam government, which was held on Sunday (March 10).

Among the significant decisions made during the cabinet meeting, the Assam government allocated Rs 131 crore for the beautification of the historic Rang Ghar in Sivasagar.

The proposed beautification project includes the development of a site at Rupohi Pathar, situated on the North Western side of Rang Ghar, covering an area of 83 bighas 2 Katha.

Additionally, the Assam government has extended a range of incentives to TATA’s semiconductor facility following the approval of the semiconductor unit in Assam by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India.

The Industries, Commerce, and Public Enterprises Department has been authorized to make payments according to the eligibility criteria outlined in the policy.

In a significant boost to the sports sector, the Assam government has sanctioned Rs 380.66 crore for the construction of an open stadium at the Amingaon Sports Complex in Kamrup.

The proposed stadium will feature a state-of-the-art cricket stadium with seating for 20,000 spectators, along with accommodation facilities for international and national coaches, as well as separate hostels for male and female players.

Furthermore, the cabinet has approved the draft Assam State Prosecution Service (Amendment) Rules, 2024, which entail amendments to Rule 15 and 19 of the Assam State Prosecution Service Rules, 2023.

These amendments are aimed at ensuring the smooth and efficient conduct of proficiency-cum-skill tests for the selection of candidates through direct recruitment in various categories of posts.

The proposed amendments will enable multiple boards to conduct proficiency-cum-skill tests seamlessly, considering the large number of applications received for direct recruitment in various categories of posts.
