Haflong : Assam Power Minister Nandita Gorlosa on the occasion of World Heritage Day appealed to the Ministry of Railways to convert the old MG track of NC Hills into a Heritage Track for the advancement of tourism in the region.

She wrote on her Facebook page, ‘On World Heritage Day, wanted to share this picture of the old MG Railway line in the Hill section which could still be converted as a Heritage Track for Adventure Tourism. After BG had taken place of MG, this Heritage Line has been neglected. What if we treasure the abandoned track!!!’.

The Minister also tagged the post to PMO India, CMO Assam, and to Railways Minister Aswini Vaishnav. Anup Biswas, a senior journalist who was vocal about the proposed Mahur to Harangajao heritage track informed KRC TIMES that A 30 crore project was in pipeline, out of which 7 crore was spent but till now Heritage track is not being operational, and work on the project is completely stopped.

He further said that looking into last year’s calamity where the Barak valley, Tripura & Manipur was completely cut off due to a landslide in the BG track, it is imperative that the Railways should keep the existing MG line operational for a second line of communication. He advised the BG line is not stable till now and that there could be further disruption due to alignment issues.
