The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) Northeast Advisory Council and Assam State Council have welcomed the Assam State Budget for 2024-25. The budget’s strategic allocations and visionary initiatives are poised to catalyze sustainable development, economic revitalization, and social empowerment across the state.

Ranjit Barthakur, Chairman of FICCI Northeast Advisory Council, praised the budget’s comprehensive approach to infrastructure enhancement, which is crucial for unlocking Assam’s full economic potential. “The Assam State Budget 2024-25 exemplifies a proactive approach to infrastructure development, with a remarkable increase in capital expenditure from Rs. 2,951 crore in FY 2015-16 to Rs. 16,338 crore in FY 2022-23. This significant investment in infrastructure is a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for industrial growth and connectivity,” he stated.

Ravi Kr. Patwa, Chairman, FICCI Assam State Council, highlighted the budget’s focus on fiscal responsibility and its implications for sustainable economic growth. “The strategic emphasis on enhancing own-source revenue through a series of reforms showcases the government’s dedication to fiscal prudence and sustainable development. This forward-looking approach, coupled with the introduction of procurement reforms and the Digital Infrastructure for Direct Benefit Transfer Schemes (DIDS), positions Assam as an attractive destination for investment,” he remarked.

Joydeep Gupta, Co-Chairman, FICCI Assam State Council, commended the budget’s allocation towards tourism and healthcare, viewing them as pivotal sectors for inclusive growth and development. “The allocation of Rs. 100.86 crore towards boosting tourism infrastructure, including the development of medical tourism and Tea Tourism, alongside comprehensive healthcare schemes such as the expansion of Ayushman Asom, demonstrates the government’s commitment to not only enhancing Assam’s appeal as a tourist destination but also ensuring the well-being of its citizens,” he said.

FICCI also welcomed the Government’s initiative to host a Global Investors’ Summit in November 2024. This event is anticipated to spotlight Assam on the global investment map, attracting significant national and international investments that will stimulate job creation and industrial growth.
