Exclusion of 13 lakh Bengali Hindus’ names from NRC
Rishikesh: The Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha has decided to raise and highlight the issue of 13 lakh people of Bengali Hindu community, whose names have been left out of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, at the national level so that a viable solution is chalked out regarding the matter.
A national working committee meeting of the Mahasabha was held at Rishikesh, on Sunday in which the political party discussed about the topic and took the decision of highlighting it so that the matter gets national attention. Mahasabha president Rajyashree Chaudhuri has entrusted the responsibility to monitor the matter to party president for Assam and observer of Northeast Biswadeep Gupta.
During the meeting, the problems being faced by Bengali Hindus (after their names were excluded from the citizenry list) were highlighted by Biswadeep and many members of the Mahasabha came to know about the plight of Hindus in Assam. It was also decided in the meet that the next national convention meeting will be held on April 13-14 where 150 representatives from the Northeast region will take part in it.
Biswadeep Gupta narrated about the problems being faced by Bengali Hindus in Assam and said the final NRC did not feature the names of around 13 lakh Bengali Hindus whereas only 5 lakh Muslims have been excluded. The exclusion of Hindus’ names from the citizenry list is not acceptable, Biswadeep said.
Talking about Muslims’ population in Assam, he said Assam, which is the biggest state in the Northeast, has seen a rapid rise in the population of Muslims in the past one decade or so and claimed Muslims would have half of Assam’s population if the community’s population keeps increasing at the current pace.
Biswadeep called upon the need for uniting the Assamese Hindus and Bengali Hindus to protect the Hindu interest politically. He also targeted the Assam government alleging that Bengali Hindus are being deprived of government jobs in the state. Besides Assam, Hindus are facing problems in different states of the Northeast including Tripura, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
Prof. (Dr.) Neeran Gautam, National Spokesperson and Vice President ForeignAffairs of ABHM stated that we should not call upon Indian Diaspora but refer them as Sanatan Diaspora across world. That is the real identity of Bharat he echoed. The next National Working Committee meeting of the Mahasabha will take place in NE India informed Rajyashree Chaudhuri.
