The counting dates of both Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim which is slated to happen on June 4 have now been revised to June 2, said the Election Commission of India (ECI) in a notification.
The notification reads, “ECI is to conduct election to Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim before the cessation of their terms, in exercise of the powers conferred upon under Article 324 read with Article 172(1) of the Constitution of India and Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The term of house of both the Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim is due to expire on 02.06.2024.”
The polling will take place on April 19 in both these states.
The Election Commission making the announcement stated that the Gazette Notification outlining the election details will be released on March 20, 2024.
Candidates must file their nominations by March 27, with the scrutiny of nominations scheduled for March 28.
The last date for the withdrawal of candidature has been set for March 30.
It may be mentioned that Arunachal Pradesh currently ruled by the BJP has 60 assembly constituencies while Sikkim has 32 constituencies.
