Bangladesh remembers language martyrs of Silchar

DHAKA: Like every year the people of Bangladesh remembered the language martyrs of Silchar- a small town that is based in South Assam’s Cachar district who made the supreme sacrifice of their lives for the cause of Bengali language.

Bangladesh has been observing May 19 as Bhasha Sahid Divas since 2003 in the honour of the language martyrs from Silchar.

A discussion session was held at Dhaka Sahid Minar. One of the noted linguistic scholars of Bangladesh Mohiuddin Khan Choudhury chaired the discussion session and it was anchored by Dr Muktadir The vice chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Mohammad Aktaruzzaman was the chief guest in that programme.

Mohammad Hafizur Rahman, poet Rifat Amin, Mohammad Mustafiz among other distinguished guests also graced the occasion.
