Cachar district created a world record by creating the longest Street Art for voter awareness on the road which is stretched about 8.1 km from Dolu market to Hatichera on Sunday.

The record was created for making the longest Rangoli for voter awareness by District Administration Cachar on March 14, 2021, with about 1500 participants made the longest Rangoli measuring 26,837ft, 8.18km in length and 6ft in width on a road located at Cachar, Silchar under the guidance of The District Administration Cachar.

It’s worth mentioning that District  Administration Cachar organised the program under Systematic Voters Education and Electronics Participation (SVEEP).  The adjudicator from India Book of records Jitendra Kumar Jain monitored the whole process.

The work had started from Dulu point of the highway at 5 am, 8 km long road was arranged with different types of Awareness Messages.  This mega awareness program has been attended by college and university students, SHG Women, tea garden workers, police officers, Assam Rifle,  BSF,  CRPF army personnel who voluntarily offered their free services and time making it an inclusive exercise.  Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli took part in making Rangoli since morning.  Cars were moving on one side of the highway and Rangoli was formed on the other side.  It was informed that not only in the Cachar district but in the whole country no such step has been taken in the past for voter awareness.

While sharing his reaction General Observer  Amlan Aditya Biswas said, “Apart from conducting the elections smoothly, our responsibility is to attract voters to cast their votes. To this end, the administration in the Cachar district has come up with an innovative approach that will attract not only people from outside the district. Rangoli is being painted, there is a possibility of raising awareness among those who are going through it. Such a big task is being done in a very well-planned manner with much enthusiasm from all participants.  I am confident the assembly election will be similarly disciplined.”

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli said, “As per the records, the record for drawing the longest Rangoli in India is four kilometres. If it was only to break the record, it would have been four and a half kilometres. But our main objective is to make people aware and get them involved.”  – From women from tea estates areas to college and university students, our officials, everyone has spontaneously enthusiastically joined in this work. Many have come forward and bought paints, brushes etc. It will also spread awareness through those who are spontaneously participating in this work.  The news reaches the people more and they come to vote consciously. Our work is done and we have set a world record of drawing 8 km long rangoli in approximately 10 hours. 

“I am a female Deputy Commissioner and about half of my officials are women. Half of our voters are women and half our artists here are women that include first time voters too,  so I am sure women voters specifically will be attracted”, Jalli added.

Jitendra Kumar Jain from the India Book of Records team said”There had been efforts in the past for spreading voting awareness in the past but as far as longest rangoli is a concern, today’s rangoli is the longest in the world”.

“We are following international protocol for records” he asserted.

A cake was also cut by the dignitaries to celebrate the occasion. 

Additional Deputy Commissioner Cachar Sumit Sattawan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Cachar Lolita Rongpipi, Assistant Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal, Circle officer Attached Sonai and also the nodal officer of SVEEP cell Bikash Chetri ALRS, Rannvijay Das from POSHAN were present on the occasion.
