National Cancer Awareness Day was observed at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati on 7th November 2022. The day is observed on 7th November coinciding with the birth anniversary of the Nobel-prize-winning scientist Madame Curie, who discovered radiation. Radiation therapy is one of the common modalities of cancer treatment. The Chief Guest of the Event was Hima Das, the Arjuna award winning athlete. The Distinguished Guests were Moloya Goswami, Cinestar, Pranoy Bordoloi, Senior TV journalist,  Ravi Sharma, Cinestar, and Minati Baruah, a Renowned Artist.

According to Dr. Srabana Misra Bahagbaty, Associate Professor Cum In-Charge of Preventive Oncology at BBCI, this day is observed every year nationally to highlight the significance and promote awareness about the diagnosis, treatment, and early detection of cancer. In India, nearly 1.6 million (16 lakh) new cancer cases are reported annually. In Assam, around 38,000 new patients with cancer are detected each year, further informed Dr Bhagabaty.
