Bhubaneswar Kalita, the Rajya Sabha Congress MP from Assam who was also the Whip of the party submitted his resignation on 5th August against his party’s stand on the government’s move in the Kashmir issue of banning the Article 370 and bifurcating Jammu & Kashmir region into two territories.  

He also pointed out that the Congress party was committing suicide by taking a contradictory decision against the abolition of Article 370. In an online letter, he revealed that party leadership even asked him to issue a whip but he denied, as the whip was against the nation’s sentiments. This led to his decision to resign from the party. He went on to state that the Congress leadership is trying to completely destroy the party.
