Reykjavik Culture Night is one of the most popular festivals in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. It is always held around the city’s birthday.

Every year the Cultural Night is celebrated on the foundation day of Reykjavik (18th August 1786). This year a cultural troop from Assam reached the capital city to represent India in the  Reykjavik Culture Night.

The festival’s opening ceremony was held at 1 pm at Hagatorg square, where Mayor Dagur B. Eggertson addressed the guests.

The troop from Assam introduced the folk dances of the state- Bihu, Karbi, Mishing, Tiwa, and Bodo. This was informed by the Indian Embassy in Iceland in their official twitter.

The audience remained spellbound with the mesmerising performance of the artists from Assam. Folk dance is the best manifestation of the culture and tradition of a particular place.

As Assam is home to different indigenous tribes,  various ethnic dance forms are prevalent in various corners of the state
