The residence of Industry Minister Nemcha Kipgen in the Lamphel area was targeted

Imphal : Manipur unrest is not having an end and tensions are brewing often as multiple news emerges which make people react. On Wednesday late afternoon, the official residence of Manipur’s Industry Minister Nemcha Kipgen was set on fire by some mob here in the Imphal Lamphel area.

Commander: We didn’t think there were a lot people.. usually people knock at gate to inquire direction to Shija hospital. So when we hear a knock, we slightly open the gate to find out who it was. Then we realised they are a lot of people and they simply barged it pushing open the gate

The police officials confirmed that the Minister or anyone was not at home when the incident happened besides security personnel guarding the house. An investigation is undertaken and a search for the perpetrators was launched by officials. Senior police officials had rushed to the spot. No one was arrested till the filing of the report.

It is to be noted that in an incident shootout, nine people belonging to the Maitei community lost their lives in Khamenlok area that borders the Kangpokpi district with Imphal East.

Kipgen is a BJP MLA who is an elected member of the state assembly from Kangpokpi assembly seat and is the lone female Minister of the N. Biren Singh Government. She is among the 10 Kuki MLAs who have demanded a separate administration, the issue which has led the state of Manipur to a standstill, and Manipur since then is experiencing sporadic violence and unrest.
