Imphal : Assam Rifles claimed to have seized liquor smuggling into Manipur from Myanmar through the porous Manipur border costing approximately Rs 1,54,000/- at TuitamKhongkhai, Churachandpur district bordering Myanmar on the south on Friday, a defense wing press statement said here on Saturday.
During a routine check of vehicles, the Assam Rifles team intercepted one white colored Gypsy without a number plate driven by ThangboiHaokip, Son of M Thongsat Haokip resident of village L Thinglhangphai, District Chandel (Manipur) and one passenger Thaggin Haokip son of Jamkhopao, resident of village Sokom, District Chandel (Manipur). They were caught for carrying illegal Myanmar Origin liquor.
The details seized items are 31 bottles of Whisky Imperial Blue (750 ml each), 161 Diablo Beer Can (500 ml each), 24 Bottles of Grape wine (750 ml each), and 500 Bottles of Burmese liquor (one litre each).
The total liquor costs approximately Rs 1,54,000/-.The apprehended persons and the items seized were handed over to Police Station Sangaikot for further action.
