National Institute of Technology Manipur celebrated its tenth convocation here at Imphal with the Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey gracing the occasion as Chief Guest. She advocated for students graduating to work for the social and economic upliftment of society and to create employment opportunities. She also stated that ‘we need to bring out alternative energy including using our indigenous and traditional knowledge’

Motivating the students and wishing them the best career ahead the Governor echoed that ‘you are the future, you are the hope of the country and your parents, and only your determination will bring you the requisite success in your career and life. Governor Anusuiya Uikey narrated how she had come from a small village and at the age of twenty-six she joined in the service of people and became an MLA after being a lecturer in a college for three years and there was no looking back from then on.

The Manipur Education Minister, Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh who graced the function as Guest of Honour appreciated the NIT Manipur stride and stated ‘I am happy that the Institute is able to break inside the top 100 engineering colleges in the country as per NIRF ranking 2023. To be ranked 95th for a new Institute like NIT Manipur is a commendable achievement.  The institute with limited resources has been doing well academically.

He also acknowledged the fact that the placement record of the Institute is also highly commendable for an Institute located in the remotest part of the country and said ‘I am sure when the students join these MNCs, they will give their best and work with all sincerity and honesty.

The Minister also highlighted and said that ‘as India is marching forward to become a global superpower, the role of each one of you as a young energetic engineering and science graduate is immensely important. The engineering sector is of strategic importance to India’s developing economy and it has been fast growing in these few years presenting more opportunities to young engineering graduates. He said ‘you must also be aware that India is now a part of the 17 countries who are permanent signatories of the Washington Accord (WA) which is an elite international agreement on engineering studies and mobility of engineers. You also have various entrepreneurship schemes of the Government like Start Up India, and Stand Up India to name a few’.

Inspiring student education Minister echoed, that patience, perseverance, and persistence are the mantra to be successful. He concluded by saying ‘My dear students, remember, you are going to be brand ambassadors of this institute and the Institute is known by its alumni. Even though you are graduating today, if you want to be successful in life, never stop learning.

Chairperson of the Board of Governors, NIT Manipur Bajrang Lal Bagra who graced the function as President of the function gave an inspiring speech saying that it is an auspicious occasion for NIT Manipur to organise the 10th Convocation as it is a milestone achieved.
