The shipment of dehydrated areca nuts was canceled inside thirty jute sacks and twenty five cartons; the load of dry poppy was kept hidden in sixteen paper cartons
Diphu : Karbi Anglong police seized 40.32 quintals of Burmese areca nut and 320 kilograms of the dehydrated poppy in national highway thirty nine yesterday. Place of incident is close to the State Bank of India, Khatkhati branch, Bokajan subdivision, during early morning yesterday.
The shipment of dehydrated areca nuts was canceled inside thirty jute sacks and twenty five cartons; the load of dry poppy was kept hidden in sixteen paper cartons. The whole quantity of Burmese areca nut the dehydrated poppy was covered with 318 sacks of ginger at the rear of the vehicle.
Based on specific information, police intercepted a truck bearing registration number WB 23D 4159 on National Highway 39 at Khatkhati. The truck was carrying a huge quantity of areca nuts from Manipur; informed a highly placed police officer. Police have arrested the driver identified as Umesh Rat, resident of Khirkiya locality, Chapra district, Bihar. The dry areca nuts, poppy seeds and ginger were loaded from Imphal, Manipur and were going towards Siliguri
