Tension prevailed in Silchar Medical College & Hospital when hundreds of women and men from Hmar-Kuki community gathered here for last couple of days to receive the dead body of slain militants who were killed by CRPF in an encounter in Jiribam.

These people while trying to take the bodies back resorted to stone pelting where many were hurt to which Cachar police had to resort to lathi charges.

As the situation was going out of control, ultimately Cachar SP Numal Mahatta along with DIG (Southern Range), Assam Police Kangkan Jyoti Saikia gave an ultimatum of ten minutes to the crowd to disperse or else face force.

He was visibly upset looking into the crowd’s behaviour where they started pelting stones at the police force and many were injured including civilians.

Later the violent mob were contained and they were dispersed along with the bodies of the slain militant which were airlifted to Churachandpur from Masimpur air base.

DIG Kangkan Jyoti Saikia informed that the situation is being contained and that Barak Valley is out of any tension and the unruly mob is being handled by Cachar Police

SP Mahatta later sent a strong message while briefing the media that any community trying to create any trouble in Assam soil would be dealt with a strong hand.
