Chadong is a village in Kamjong District of Manipur State,India. It is located about 37 Km from its  state capital Imphal. The Mapithel Dam is an artificial lake dam which was approved by the Planning Commission of India in 1980 and was conceived without the knowledge of the public. The Dam is located on the Thoubal River in the Mapithel Valley.

The persons who were affected by it belong to the three major communities of Manipur. The upstream affected people are mostly Naga. The downstream affected persons were mostly Kuki and Meithei. Hence, the dam has proved to be rather non-discriminatory in affecting people. Chadong Village, a village once known for its vegetables has no cultivable land anymore, let alone houses as it has been completely submerged.
The villagers of Chadong in Ukhrul district, Manipur are today waiting for the attention of the government after their village has been submerged by the Mapithel Dam/ Thoubal Multi-Purpose project constructed to harness the water of Thoubal river for providing irrigation facilities, power generation, augmentation of water supply to Imphal city and to reduce substantially the chances of flood damage in the downstream.
