Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh informed that 10,675 illegal immigrants were detected in the state over the past five years. The detected illegal immigrants detected in Manipur originate from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Norway and Nepal, besides China.

The data was provided by the Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh while responding to a query by MLA Surjakumar Okram during the ongoing Manipur assembly session. He said that out of a total of 10,675 illegal immigrants, 85 have been deported in the last five years.

Moreover, to curb the influx of illegal immigrants into Manipur, a committee has been set up to conduct a verification drive, the chief minister stated. This drive aims to identify illegal immigrants in the districts of Churachandpur, Chandel, Tengnoupal, Kamjong and Pherzawl districts of Manipur.
