United Committee Manipur, UCM, an influential civil society group whose sole agenda is to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur has appealed the legislators of the state to reaffirm their stand to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur by taking a resolution during the two day session of state legislative assembly from August 26 and 27.

This reaction from the valley based civil society group comes after the statement by the new governor of Nagaland and interlocutor of the Indo-Naga Peace Talk, RN Ravi made this month in Nagaland that Prime Minister Office has instructed him to bring an end to the ongoing Peace Talk between the NSCN IM and the Centre within three months.

UCM further announced that its consultative committee member, Central Committee and subsidiary organisations has started campaigning and is prepared to face any outcome of the Peace Talk.

UCM president, Sunil Karam informed that the signing of the Framework Agreement between the NSCN IM and the Centre on August 3 2015 has raised apprehension among the neighbouring states of Nagaland that the agreement may disrupt the territory and integrity of different states particularly, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.

He informed that social organisations of Manipur met the Prime Minister in 2017 where an understanding was arrived between the two parties after the Prime Minister instructed the civil society organisations not to believe the rumours regarding the Naga Peace Accord unless an official statement is released from the Centre. “The Prime Minister also assured that the Naga Peace Accord will not harm or affect the neighbouring states and that different stake holders will be consulted before bringing an end to the Naga Peace Talk,”said Sunil.

“In contrary to the assurance, going by the interlocutor’s recent statement, if the Indian government acts without consulting all stake holders, the final outcome will not be accepted at any cost,” the UCM president added.
