Various MoU signed between CAU, Imphal and ICAR CIFRI, ICAR NBFGR were exchanged

Agartala: The College of Fisheries (CoF) an constituent college of Central Agricultural University (CAU), celebrated its 26th Foundation Day today here at the Lembucherra campus at Agartala. Today also marked the closing ceremony of the year long Silver Jubilee ceremony where the college had undertaken various activities including competitions, lecture series, focus on entrepreneurship etc.

‘We are catalysing the needs of fisheries in Northeast India’ echoed the Dean of College of Fisheries Prof Ratan Kumar Saha while giving a detailed report on the college achievements and goals.

Earlier the Tripura Cabinet Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the Silver Jubilee Park, Silver Jubilee Lobby, Silver Jubilee Tower and planted saplings at the residential complex, along with Vice chancellor of Central Agricultural University, Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Tripura University, Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, along with other senior officials of CAU.

While addressing the gathering the Vice Chancellor of CAU, Dr. Anupam Mishra said that the College of Fisheries is the top fisheries institution in the Country and informed that the college has pushed the university through its significant contribution in terms of ICAR-JRF/SRF performance, technology generation and dissemination among needy farmers of the region.

Dr. Mishra said that the academic excellence of the college can be very well justified with its consistent performance at the AIEEA examination conducted by ICAR for award of JRF and admission to postgraduate programmes at CIFE, Mumbai and other SAUs.

Dr Mishra proudly said that ‘I also want to put on record that the pass-out students have excelled in their career and as of now 45 alumni of the college are serving the country as ARS scientist in the ICAR set-up which is a rare milestone achieved by the college.

Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, the Vice Chancellor of Tripura University who was present in the closing ceremony as Guest of Honour acknowledged the contribution of the faculties, staff and students in building the college in the last twenty-five years. He appealed to students to take advantage of the infrastructure and take the road of entrepreneurship.

Various MoU signed between CAU, Imphal and ICAR CIFRI, ICAR NBFGR were exchanged. Director of ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow Dr. Uttam Kr. Sarkar and Director of ICAR- Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore Dr. Basanta Kumar Das were present here to sign the MoUs with CAU.

The Director of Instruction, CAU Dr. S. Basanta Singh gave details of the various activities and achievements of the University and informed that the University is having plans to sign MoUs with various international Universities and will be offering dual certification in future.

Dean of College of Agriculture, Imphal, Dr. Indira Sarangthem wished the college her best wishes and echoed that under the able leadership of Vice Chancellor and Prof R. K Saha who is a hard worker and an achiever has made the function a great success.

The college has also honoured the former Dean Prof M. L. Bhowmick was invited and a smart classroom was also dedicated in his name. Prof. Bhowmick passionately narrated the hard times faced in the initial days by the college and he wished that one day the college will be evolving as a fishery University.

Many awards and prizes were also distributed in today’s ceremony.
