Community participation is needed to achieve target of functional household tap connection by 2024
While chairing a Conference of State Ministers on Jal Jeevan Mission in New Delhi on 26th August 2019, Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, asked states to plan for recharge and reuse of grey-water generated from households for agriculture and irrigation purpose.
The Minister highlighted that India has 16 percent of the world population, but only four percent of freshwater resources.
He has said that the depleting groundwater level, overexploitation and deteriorating water quality are major challenges to provide potable drinking water.
Shekhawat said the Jal JeevanMission is set to be based on various water conservation efforts like point recharge, desilting of minor irrigation tanks, use of greywater for agriculture and sustainability of the source.
