SILCHAR : Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha’s president for Assam and the Northeast Biswadeep Gupta has expressed deep concern over the ongoing unrest in neighbouring Manipur and demanded that those involved in violence which resulted in loss of human lives and destruction of property be brought to justice.

Violent clashes broke out in different parts of Manipur on Wednesday during a “Tribal Solidarity March” called by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in Torbung area of Churachandpur district to protest the demand for inclusion of the state’s Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Curfew was imposed in different areas in the aftermath of the violence.

In a statement on Thursday, Gupta said the situation in Manipur is “unfortunate” and demanded that the government should carry out a probe to identify those involved in the violence and punish them. He also appealed to the people of Manipur to not indulge in violence and maintain peace so that the situation becomes normal.

The ABHM president appealed to all the political parties of that state to come together keeping their political differences aside for the well-being of people of Manipur.
