He further said that the state government is working on thermal plants and their licensing to resolve the power problem within the next two to four years
Shillong: In a bid to rein in the problem of incessant load-shedding that has taken Meghalaya into its grip the state government is buying power worth Rs 3 crore as informed by the chief minister Conrad Sangma.
“Due to less rainfall the uncertainty is staring at the future Umiam Dam. May be we have to shut down this Dam in the coming days,” Sangma said.
Sangma further said that the government is basically spending Rs 600 crore for purchasing electricity. The chief minister also tried to assure the common people that the government is weighing all its options and is trying to come up with means to stop the menace of load-shedding in this unforgiving summer season.
Meanwhile, Sangma explained that the government is working on a long-term resolution to the problem of electricity in the state. He explained, “Solar mission will be one of those measures. It will take time but as we move forward we are hopeful that in the next two to three years we will see more input from solar power.”
