Agartala: A large number of CPI (M) workers and supporters led by party’s Sadar subdivisional committee secretary Subhasish Ganguly staged a prolonged demonstration on Saturday in front of the office of SP (West ) Kiran Kumar. Their demand was that the police administration take measures to ensure safe and smooth return home of of 31 families forcibly ousted from their homes and hearths by BJP miscreants in the post-election violence from Swami Vivekananda Abasan (society) and Gorkha Basti area.
Fed up with inaction of police over the issue despite repeated complaints a large number of CPI (M) workers and supporters gathered in front of the SP (west ) office started shouting slogans.
All of them had placards around their necks with slogans inscribed on them. After an hourlong demonstration the SP (west) Kiran Kumar called in the demonstrators and leaders and spoke to them.
A four member delegation of CPI (M) leaders comprising district secretary and former MLA Ratan Das, subdivisional secretary Subhasish Ganguly, secretariat member Rupa Ganguly and north Agartala local committee secretary Biton Das.
Later Subhasish Ganguly informed media persons that the SP had given a patient hearing and promised to take measures to ensure safe return home of the 31 displaced families soon. He said that had had also handed over a list of the families to the SP and told him that if the families are not restored to their homes and hearths there will be more aggressive agitation in the near future.
