North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Chief Executive Member, Debolal Gorlosa distributed cheques of Rs. 2.5 lakh each to the widows, whose husbands died of Covid -19, under the Chief Minister’s Covid-19 Widows’ Support Scheme. The cheques were given away in a function held at DC conference hall on Wednesday along with Haflong LAC MLA, Nandita Gorlosa, and Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua.

Two numbers of beneficiaries have been identified to benefit from financial support under this scheme in Dima Hasao district whose husbands died due to Covid-19 pandemic. According to the norms of the scheme, the beneficiary should be a permanent resident of Assam, the beneficiary’s husband should be a Covid-19 positive patient at the time of death and certified by the State level Covid Death Audit Board and belong to a low-income family having an annual income less than 5 lakhs.

While beneficiaries of Orunadoi and Widow Pension Scheme are also eligible to get the benefit of this scheme, widows of government servants will not be covered. They will get the family pension as per usual norms.

With the recipients of the cheques, CEM Debolal Gorlosa interacted sympathetically and listened to their struggles. Assuring help regarding pending official matters as approached by one beneficiary, CEM Gorlosa encouraged them to be optimistic and live a dignified life.
