Parents, guardians and well-wishers watched and appreciated the plays
Haflong : A week long Summer Theatre Camp 2023 was organized at the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Haflong by the KimDaula Media in association with Guwahati-based Jirsong Theatre, from 3rd to 9th July 2023.
Coordinated by Kulendra Daulagupu, FTII alumnus and mentored by Robijita Gogoi, an alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD) and nationally acclaimed theatre director, the workshop was open to all age groups and aimed at imparting practical and realistic acting skills to the aspiring and budding talents.
Robijita Gogoi was assisted by another NSD alumnus Raju Roy, Jirsong Theatre alumni Kalpajit Saikia and Karishma Baro. It may be mentioned here that this kind of theatre workshop was held for the first time in the district of Dima Hasao in Assam, that too by the NSD Alumni. Altogether 37 students participated in the workshop with 19 students (11 Female and 8 Male) in the senior category and 18 students (10 Female and 8 Male) in the junior category.
Theory and practical lessons on body language and voice, story-telling, action-reaction, music and sense of rhythm, audience facing and technicality, face painting, theatre games, improvisation and production process etc. were imparted in the workshop.
In the Valedictory Function held at the Cultural Institute Hall, Haflong on 9th July 2023, Biswajit Daulagupu, Executive Member, I/c Cultural Affairs, DHAC, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and presented the Certificates in Acting to the participants. In his speech, he exuded confidence that the workshop would definitely usher in a new era towards establishing modern theatre in Dima Hasao, apart from honing the skills of the aspiring actors.
Three Short plays – one play “Prakriti Ki Raksha” in the Hindi language by the junior group, two plays – “Makhao – The Thief” in the Dimasa language and “Parinaam – The Consequence” in the Hindi language by the senior group were staged on the occasion. Parents, guardians and well-wishers watched and appreciated the plays.
