An alert has been issued to the operators of the common service centres (CSC) in Medziphema, a subdivision of Nagaland’s Chümoukedima district to not allow the Kuki people who were displaced from Manipur to change their addresses on their Aadhaar cards as it may lead to “future complication”.
“It has come to the notice of the undersigned that some displaced Kukis from Manipur had approached CSC (common service centre) operators for change of address in their Aadhaar,” P. James Swu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Medziphema, said in an order dated 11th July.
The ADC has therefore directed all Aadhaar operator(s) operating under Medziphema Subdivision to not entertain such change of address request in the Aadhaar documents as “it may lead to future complications.” “This order is issued for strict compliance,” the issue read.
The Kukis, one of the 16 acknowledged tribes of Nagaland, are larger in number in neighbouring Manipur. Following the ethnic clashes with the Meitei community that started on May 3, many of them left Manipur.
