Tension erupted over the election on thursday last when BJP candidate Amit Kumar Chakma died following an attack by rival political party supporters

AIZAWL:  Tension is prevailing in Mizoram over the election of the Chakma Autonomous District Council going to be held on Tuesday. counting of votes will be undertaken on May 11. A total of 74 candidates are contesting for the 24 seats where the total number of voters is 35,885. The ruling MNF, BJP, and Congress are contesting the election.

Tension erupted over the election on thursday last when BJP candidate Amit Kumar Chakma died following an attack by rival political party supporters. The attack took place when he was campaigning in the Lunglai district.

Receiving the information, the Industries Minister of Tripura Santana Chakma rushed to the spot and condemned the incident. Later addressing a press conference along with the lone BJP MLA of the state BD Chakma she demanded a thorough investigation of the incident.
