Despite this sizable economic contributions, the ex-servicemen in Manipur lament that they aren’t getting the rightful recognition in the Manipuri society.
Manipur has a good chunk of ex-servicemen still in their productive prime. Yet the government has overlooked their obvious potential and failed to tap into. Unlike in Manipur, ex-servicemen elsewhere land plump post with handsome remuneration.
The collective contribution of the ex-servicemen to the state’s economy is a whopping Rs 200 plus crores per annum remitted as their pensions. Despite this sizable economic contributions, the ex-servicemen in Manipur lament that they aren’t getting the rightful recognition in the Manipuri society.
Retired Lt. Gen. L.N Singh, VSM reiterates that there are about 1 lakh ex-servicemen in the state and their families forming 2% of the population. This adds up to 5-6% of the present electorate. The General points out that when there are 2% of the population who are highly qualified for certain jobs but for unknown reasons their resources remained untapped, the state has terribly failed to utilize gainfully all of its available resources.
Ex-servicemen having undergone rigorous military training and schooled in the strict military discipline are perfect as HR managers, security officer, security supervisor, residential medical doctors, hostel wardens, clerical jobs, private detectives and as undercover agents.
Thanks for your support to the ex servicemen. I hope the system including the Government, MNCs and people realise the sacrifice of these young men. ESMs are true Assets of the Nation in real sense. Barely revered, rarely remembered until the Enemy knocks at one’s door. The voices of cacophony then changes to Jai Jawan, Jai Hind.
