Agartala: Tripura’s famous cricket coach Raja Debbarma (54) who built up shining careers of many a junior cricketers this morning breathed his last at 8-10 AM in the intensive care unit (ICU) of GBP hospital. He had been a patient of cardio-vascular disease and had been admitted to hospital five days ago.
Raja Debbarma is survived his wife, one son and old mother. A deep grief engulfed the Krishna Nagar area after receipt of the news of his death and many people ,specially junior cricket players burst out in tears.
Raja Debbarma had been a talented cricket player for a long time and even represented the state in a number of national level tournaments. He was also the founder-member of Colonel Chaumuhuni cricket coaching centre.
Many junior 13-15 age group players made their subsequent careers after undergoing coaching in the Colonel Chaumuhuni cricket centre under his care and coaching.
Towards the end of his career he had been transferred to the Netaji Suhas Regional Cocahing Centre (NSRCC) and built up many a career with sincere care.
It was on May 25, 2023 that a section of media in the state had published and broadcast the inaccurate news of his death . But that error was never corrected .
Tripura’s junior level cricket is shell-shocked by the untimely death of coach Raja Debbarma.
All senior cricketers including office bearers of the TCA have expressed their shock and dismay over the death of Raja Debbarma and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
