KRC TIMES National Bureau

The concluding session of Parliament holds great significance as it provides a crucial platform for the Government to showcase its achievements and for the Opposition to hold it accountable for its actions. Throughout the past five years, the Government has implemented numerous reforms across various sectors, encompassing the economy, governance, social welfare, and national security. Initiatives such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), as well as ambitious welfare schemes like Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan MantriAwasYojana, have had a profound impact on the socio-economic landscape of the nation.

With the conclusion of the final session of Parliament before the upcoming general elections, it is an opportune moment to reflect upon the Government’s accomplishments, challenges, and lasting impact over the past five years. Significant policy reforms, legislative milestones, and many achievements and controversies have characterized this period.  However, alongside these successes, the Government has also faced its fair share of challenges and criticism. Issues such as economic slowdowns, agrarian distress, unemployment, and social unrest have tested the Government’s determination and evoked strong reactions from critics and supporters. Contentious debates surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), farm laws, and the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic have dominated parliamentary discussion. Furthermore, the Government’s failure to take timely action to address the violence in Manipur will undoubtedly be seen as a stain on its tenure. As the 17th LokSabha bids farewell, parliamentarians must evaluate the overall progress made and identify areas that require further attention. This self-reflection is crucial for all political parties to understand the nation’s sentiments and address the people’s aspirations. The past five years have seen significant changes in the political landscape, with coalition dynamics, regional parties, and evolving voter preferences shaping elections. The upcoming general elections allow citizens to judge the government’s performance and set the country’s direction. This marks a new chapter in India’s democratic journey, where the electorate will choose the next leaders. Political parties must engage in constructive dialogue, present their vision, and earn the trust of the people. Lawmakers must uphold democracy, promote inclusivity, and prioritize the welfare of the masses. The government’s legacy will be defined by its commitment to democratic values, social justice, and growth for all. As we enter the next phase of governance, let us reflect on lessons learned and effectively communicate with our future representatives.
