351 families of Bithung Rengthama and 61 families of Kopili constituency receiving government aid including food items and shelter

Diphu : Although flood waters are receding gradually, it has remained a threat for the inhabitants who are living within close proximity of the bank of Kopili River in West Karbi Anglong district.““Kopili and Bithung Renthama Member of Autonomous Council constituencies are the two most affected areas of West Karbi Anglong; 351 families of Bithung Rengthama and 61 families of Kopili constituency receiving government aid including food items and shelter.

Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang has told the media yesterday that the Land and Revenue department has been directed to assess the quantum of damage and about affected families under the direction of executive Members and Principal Secretary of the council.

The CEM informed that the Water Resource department under a state sponsored fund of INR 100 crore has begun embankment protection work of the Kopili River spread in Bithung and Kopili constituency however due to the inclement weather work is stopped now and shall restart soon.““Ronghang informed that said that the National Highway Authority of India will construct a road starting from Nillie to Silchar passing through Baithalangso, Dongkamukam, Kheroni and Halflong.

The nine ton damaged RCC Bridge over Kopili River at Kheroni of 1968 will be newly constructed under this road project.““According to the Water Resource department, till yesterday the stream of Kopili was flowing at danger level of 66.79 M while Karbi Langpi flowing at danger level of 64.75 M in West Karbi Anglong.
