A severe shortage of petrol is being experienced across all depots in Barak Valley, Assam, causing a deficiency in essential commodities.
The shortage has been attributed to landslides in Haflong that have disrupted both rail and road communications.
Karimganj is also facing a desperate need for petrol.
The disruption in communication with three regions, including Barak Valley, is due to natural calamities.
The owner of a petrol pump reported that their daily requirement is 5,000 litres of oil, but currently, they only have only left with approximately 8,000 litres.
An oil tanker is also stranded en route to Barak Valley.
Both petrol and diesel are in short supply in Barak Valley, leading to disputes between drivers and owners. The three districts of Barak and Hailakandi are also experiencing a shortage of petrol and diesel.
It is to be mentioned here that due to landfall in Meghalaya, Barak has been cut off from the Brahmaputra for several days.
