The ITR filing deadlines have been extended to August 31
After several applications from the taxpayers, the Ministry of Finance has announced on Tuesday that, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extends the due date for filing of Income Tax Returns by individuals for the financial year 2018-2019 by a month.
In lieu of July 31, the last date for filing of Income Tax Returns is August 31. The demands for an extension in filing ITR date had occurred since the issuance of tax deducted at source (TDS) statement for FY19 (2018-19 Fiscal Year) was delayed.
The new timeline will be applicable for individuals, undivided Hindu families, an association of persons and body of individual Taxpayers.
Including salaried taxpayers, and entities who do not need to get their accounts audited were required to file their income tax returns for fiscal 2018-19 (Assessment Year 2019-20) by July 31, 2019.
Before taking this decision CBDT has noticed that there are some problems regarding filling Income Tax Return within 31st July.
The main problem is getting Form 16. So, the Central Board of Direct Taxes extended the due date.
Earlier last month, the Income Tax department had extended the deadline for employers to issue Form 16.
TDS certificate for the financial year 2018-19 to its employees by 25 days till July 10. This left the salaried taxpayers with a limited timeframe of just 20 days to file their income tax returns.
