The Mizoram government will review ration card beneficiaries to streamline public distribution system, a minister said.
Food, civil supplies and consumer affairs minister B. Laltlanzova told a news conference on Saturday that ration card holders (white colour), who are low-income family, will be included under National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Similarly, NFSA beneficiaries, who belonged to good income family and those not to be under the NFSA will be shifted under white card facility (above poverty line), he said.
He said that card holders should report to respective district civil supplies officers during February.
The minister also said that the government will also review subsidy given to white card holders and the government is planning to cut down at least Rs. 3 crore spent for subsidy.
Altogether, there are 2,86,362 ration card holders rs in Mizoram.
In Mizoram, ration cards are categorised into three colours -white, yellow and blue based on the income level of the beneficiaries.
