Gujarat: Cyclone Vayu likely to hit Kutch coast by midnight

Cyclone Vayu is likely to gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours before it recurves and crosses the Gujarat coast by Monday midnight as a depression, the meteorological department said.

In Gujarat, cyclone Vayu is moving northeastwards. According to the Met department, the cyclone is likely to hit the Kutch coast by midnight.

However, the intensity of the very severe cyclonic storm is likely to reduce and it may hit the coast as a cyclonic storm or a deep depression. Kutch district administration is gearing up for disaster response as Vayu cyclone is likely to return Kutch coast. Heavy rain continued in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch even today.

AIR correspondent reports that in wake of cyclone Vayu, Kutch District Collector Remya Mohan has advised people living across the coastline from Mandvi to Lakhpat, to remain high. NDRF teams have been deployed at Gandhidham, Naliya and Mandvi, while two teams are camping in Bhuj as standby force.

Two companies of BSF will be deployed as and when required. Port operations remained normal yesterday at Kandla, Mundra and Tuna ports, but all precautions are being taken for Storm and heavy rain.

People living in the coastal belt are already advised to be totally ready to move for safer places at any time. Shelter homes are being set up in school buildings and community halls. Apart from Kutch, High winds and heavy rains are likely to be experienced up to North Gujarat and Rajasthan.
