Governor assured that Government is committed to bring peace and tranquillity in the State immediately

Imphal: Governor of Manipur Ms. Anusuiya Uikey visited relief camps in Imphal Wednesday and enquired about the prevailing conditions of displaced people in the camps. In the aftermath of the unwanted violent clash on 3rdof this month in Churachandpur and subsequent districts of Manipur where several valuable human lives were lost and many sustained injuries coupled with dislocation of thousands of people, subsequently various relief camps were opened in different parts of the State.

Governor first visited the relief camp at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex where she met with the displaced people mainly from Moreh and Churachandpur districts and enquired about the prevailing conditions. She personally talked to the victims and assured them that Government is working round the work for the safety and security of the people of the State and said all possible helpwill be extended for immediate relief and rehabilitation.

After interacting people in the camp, talking to the media, Governor said, all efforts are put in place for relief and rehabilitation of the displaced people residing at various relief camps set up in the State. She highlighted that confidence building measures is the need of the hour to remove the fear psychosis in the minds of the people.

She said, State Level Relief Committee consisting of representatives of various political parties, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), NGOs along with representatives of different communities and central forces will be formed to look after the overall relief works in the State.

The committee will assess the damage in different areas and required compensation and rehabilitation works will be taken up. The Committee will also work to remove misunderstanding among the communities and it will work for instilling mutual understanding and brotherhood among various communities in the State.

The Governor also reiterated the formation of a State Level Peace committee including representatives from all communities, political parties, Ministers, MLAs, Assam Rifles etc. When asked about the follow up actions about vandalism, arson and human causalities, Governor said, a judicial committee will be constituted and will enquire about the incidents and those found involved or guilty will be punished.

Governor continued that Centre is fully committed to ensure the safety and security of the people in the State. She said, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in touch with the State government and adequate security forces have been provided to ensure security and they are working round the clock. She thanked the security forces for their efforts to ensure peace and security and also for their contribution in relief works.

Later, Governor went to the relief camp at 143 Bn, CRPF at Lamphelpat and enquired about thedisplaced people from Langol and adjoining areas which have beentaking shelter there. Governor heard about their grievances and assured them that all possible help will be extended for their relief and rehabilitation.

Talking to the media there, Governor assured that Government is committed to bring peace and tranquillity in the State immediately. She appealed all the stakeholders to co-operate and work together to ensure peace and normalcy in this hour.

She further added that she is in touch with Union Home Minister, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Assam Rifles, CRPF, Army, political parties and social organizations etc. All efforts are in place for returning peace and normalcy in the State.

Governor distributed relief materials consisting of drinking water, dal, vegetables, juices, sanitary pads and baby foods.
