Heavy rains cause landslides in Sikkim, National Highway 10 blocked

GANGTOK : Heavy rains have continued to lash Sikkim for the second consecutive day, causing flash floods and landslides across the state. In Singtam, flash floods have blocked National Highway 10 at Shantinagar.The incessant rainfall since last evening has also caused significant damage to roads and vehicles in the area.

NH-10 road blocked: The Singtam to 32 no. NH-10 road has been blocked at Shantinagar due to heavy rainfall and debris. Removal efforts underway:_ Machines have been deployed, and work is in full swing to clear the debris and restore traffic.

IMD reports heavy rainfall: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), 101.6 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the last 24 hours, leading to roadblocks and disruptions. Meanwhile Gangtok also Landslide at Panihouse Area, Gangtok, Near Shiva Mandir, Pani House.

A devastating flood has swept away eight houses, leaving three people dead and several families homeless in Majuwa village, located in the Yangang region of South Sikkim at around 5 am on June 10. The tragedy was confirmed by DC Namchi Annapurna Alley.

The victims identified so far include Yabha Subba and Bishal Rai. The name of the third deceased is currently unknown.

The flash flood originated from Bhaley Dhunga and swept through Majuwa village, causing extensive damage to properties and infrastructure. Several areas surrounding Yangang have also been affected by the disaster.
