After months long campaigns and polling, finally, India gives her verdict. With result of Lok Sabha election 2019, it is loud and clear that India has voted for her Chowkidar
The Lok Sabha Election result had been declared on 23rd May 2019. There is a total of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies. However, polling to the Vellore Lok Sabha constituencies was deferred after the I-T department’s raid on a cement warehouse belonging to a DMK functionary and the subsequent seizure of Rs 11.48 crore from there earlier this month. The list of constituency-wise winning candidates of all the 542 Lok Sabha constituencies has been declared.
The main contenders in Lok Sabha Election 2019 were Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) and the regional parties.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has improved its seat tally of 282 in 2014 to 303 2019. The BJP has maintained its near dominance in the northern and western regions of the country. It has won all Lok Sabha seats in of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh it has won 28 out of 29 seats. It has recovered from its big assembly election defeat in Chhattisgarh. In Maharashtra, the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena has repeated their 2014 performance, winning 41 out of 48 seats. It has suffered marginal losses in some states. The biggest of them is Uttar Pradesh, where the party’s tally has come down from 71 to 62 between 2014 and 2019. The BJP has lost two seats in Andhra Pradesh and a seat each in Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh. In some states such as Bihar and Jharkhand, the BJP contested fewer seats than it had in 2014 to accommodate its alliance partners. The NDA’s overall tally is either the same or higher in these states. These losses have been more than compensated by the party’s gains in the states such as West Bengal, Karnataka and Odisha, where the party has registered big gains.
The Bhartiya Janata Party on Thursday stunned the Opposition with a historic landslide victory in Lok Sabha elections 2019. Rahul Gandhi lost in Amethi, BJP’s Smriti Irani won the Congress bastion. Though Gandhi won from Wayanad, Kerala.
The National Democratic Alliance, which includes big regional parties like Janata Dal (United) and Shiv Sena, also bagged seats. On the other hand, Opposition parties are on verge of an existential crisis, especially Congress. The grand old party is got less than 50 seats in two consecutive Lok Sabha elections.
Rahul Gandhi-led Congress has been wiped out from 18 states. Big losers in Congress include eight former Chief Ministers and party’s leader of Opposition Malikarjun Kharge. Barring Kerala where Congress won 15 seats, the party has not reached double figures in any other state. Among regional parties, the biggest setback has befallen N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP, which failed to open an account, while BJP-inclines YSR Congress cleaned house in Andhra Pradesh. In West Bengal, BJP was able to shake Mamata Banerjee’s ground by stealing 18 seats, up by 17 from 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Left parties may see themselves limited to three seats after the results. This time around, despite an intensive electioneering, Congress has been declared winner at just 39 seats and it’s leading on 13 others. Congress has been wiped out from 18 states.
BJP retains the Hindi heartland proving sceptics wrong. BJP repeated its superlative performance in five key Hindi-speaking states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, as the party along with its allies not only bagged or was leading in 165 out of 185 Lok Sabha seats, but also enjoyed a massive vote swing in its favour. The NDA’s strike rate of nearly 90 per cent was similar to 2014 when it won 166 of 185 seats, including 73 (BJP 71, Apna Dal 2) out of 80 in Uttar Pradesh.
On other hand Rahul Gandhi has conceited defeat and has offered to resign from the post of President of Indian National Congress.
He also congratulated Narendra Modi.
World leaders have started sending congratulatory messages to the Prime Minister and Modi too started from the moment results trends started pouring in on the morning of 23rd May 2019.
