Diphu : The 72nd Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council foundation day was observed at the Dongkamukam Sports Complex of West Karbi Anglong yesterday. Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, was the chief guest of the official event.

In his inaugural address, Ronghang paid tribute to creative thinking leaders such like Semson Sing Engti, Sarsing Teron , Song Bey, Raidang Engti, Moniram Langneh, Khorsing Terang, and others, whose hard work led to the pattern of the Council in 1952 under the sixth schedule. 

He emphasized the need for harmony among all communities and tribes in Karbi Anglong to secure a better future and reiterated the longstanding demand for an autonomous state.

The Art & Culture department awarded individuals for their distinguished contributions in various fields. Late Hundrowel Millick was posthumously honored with the Sarsing Teron Award for socio-political contributions. Late Rubi Phangchopi received the Semson Sing Ingti Award posthumously for her achievements in entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment, while late Elisha Hanse of Lorulangso was posthumously awarded the Khorsing Terang Award for her contributions to social causes and art & culture.

The CEM Lifetime Achievement Awards were posthumously given to late Soi Soi Terang of Diphu and late Rangdang Teron of Umborbon Ulukunchi, West Karbi Anglong, in recognition of their remarkable political careers. The late Kane Rongpipi of Diphu Baptist Church was honored with the CEM Lifetime Achievement Award in health, while late Mebel Terangpi, daughter of Rukasen, Diphu, and Harsing Engti of Inglongcherop, Diphu, received CEM Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions to art & culture.The late Pari Rongpi of Rongthe-ang, Diphu, was posthumously awarded the CEM Lifetime Achievement Award in literature.
