Shitalabari Railway colony and Shopnoluk, a Non Government Organization run by a blind lady is the chief beneficiary of this idea
Diphu : When no authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council including the Public Health Engineering, Mission Jal Jivan or the Diphu Municipality Board paid any heed to the dire necessity of providing minimum facility of drinking water to a large section of urban population residing in ward number one of Diphu town, largesse of a person have astounded many ardent critics of politicians.
Haradhan Ghosh ward commissioner of the locality arranged piped drinking water supply to various places of the locality from his own initiative and totally void of any government help. The facility was formally launched in the area yesterday.
The distinctive method of supplying drinking water to the poorest of the poor is not at all complex nor was beyond the capacity of the authority. Some existing source of perennial water was strapped up by installing submersible pumps and the pumped water was stored in tankers, needy people now collect water from the storage tanks.
Shitalabari Railway colony and Shopnoluk, a Non Government Organization run by a blind lady is the chief beneficiary of this idea. Mention worthy fact of the whole episode is that, Haradhan Ghosh who is a financially marginal person but that hardly stopped him from responding to the need of the hour. Ghosh spent the entire amount from his own pocket which he received from the municipality authority as remuneration of ward commissioners.
For the last seventy years either Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority or the local municipality, both shied away from providing the least amount of humanitarian aids like drinking water or medical facilities in this locality, just because some portion of the area is under railway authority.
However, that did not prevent any political party from obtaining the votes of the area for political gain. The political leaders of the ruling party remained inflexible to respond on any compassionate ground for so long.
The unique initiative of Haradhan Ghosh as a human has been praised by the cognizant sections of the society; most of them have admitted that, for extending compassion and civilized assistance, regulation cannot be a barrier.
