Smuggled from Myanmar whose market value will be around Rs 1 crore

Karbi Anglong police confiscated 13, 500 kg black pepper packed in 300 gunny bags, smuggled from Myanmar whose market value will be around Rs 1 crore at the Khatkhati check gate of Karbi Anglong district near Assam- Nagaland on Sunday night.

The truck with registration number RJ 19GC 3301transporting the peeper consignment was also seized by police. Police have informed that the peeper shipment was transported from Dimapur city of Nagaland and was destined for Byrnihat town of Meghalaya for dispatching to North India.

The driver of the truck Durgesh Kumar a resident of Rajasthan has been taken into custody by police for failing to produce necessary legal documents of the consignment, police have also arrested Nirmaljeet Singh alias Pintu from Dimapur of Nagaland along with cash money Rs.3.50 lakh,  and Bubul Das from Sarupathar locality of Golaghat district in this case.

Accused Nirmaljeet Singh is a history-sheeter and was involved in bootlegging of Indian Made Foreign liquor from the state of Arunachal to the dry state of Nagaland.  He was also involved in the smuggling of teak timber from Myanmar.  

A police team also searched a warehouse in Byrnihat town and seized 100 bags of black pepper and 50 bags of areca nut suspected to be smuggled from Myanmar. Here police failed to arrest any person involved in smuggling.
